Learning Support Assistants- Derby

Date posted: October 22, 2019
£65 - £75 per day
Derbyshire, East Midlands
Job description

Learning Support Assistants wanted in Mainstream Secondary schools in Derby/Derbyshire

Due to current supply staff taking permanent positions in the schools that I've placed them in, i have vacancies in my Team for Learning Support Assistants in Secondary Schools in Derby and Derbyshire.

Learning support assistants are primarily classroom based, although their day to day work may include some administrative tasks, especially during certain times of the school year.

The job is all through term-time, working the same hours as qualified teachers, usually starting at 08.30 and finishing around 16.00, depending on whether or not there are additional meetings, training courses or projects to be completed. This can be on a day to day basis or longer term assignments based on your requirements.

Over and above the basic requirements of literacy and numeracy, the character of the learning support assistant is important. This is a role that requires the ability to gain the trust and confidence of students that have often experienced some difficulty in their school life, whether that is learning difficulties or social difficulties that affect their development, a learning support assistant must have the right personality.

I am looking for people with previous experience in the care or education sector or someone that is supportive, non-judgemental, patient, easy to talk to, positive and flexible. They must be able to speak to the pupils in a manner which encourages and supports them. Much of the day to day classroom work is done on a one-to-one basis with a particular student that needs help, perhaps just in one particular subject or across the curriculum, so the learning support assistant, must be able to build trusting relationships.

In order to be considered for this role, the successful candidate will need to meet the following criteria:

- Eligible to work in the UK (must have valid visa)

- Current DBS registered with the update service or be prepared to apply for a new one

- Work or university based references covering the last two years
